Reverse Meta Model
In NLP the "meta model" is Bandler and Grinder's name for the wellformedness conditions of the surface structure of the English language*. (*See their book "The Structure of Magic.") In Hypnosis we sometimes chose to deliberately violate these wellformedness conditions ("reversing the meta model") in order to be purposefully and artfully vague.
Volume 47. "Structure of Magic" Presuppositions 26 - 29.
Bandler and Grinder's book, "The Structure of Magic" is a treasure trove of incredibly useful presuppositions. We are bringing them to you in summary. This is the final installment.
26. Cleft Sentences
(Sentences beginning with "it is" or "it was")
It was wonderful to see the happy look on their cherubic faces as they listened.
27. Pseudo Cleft Sentences
(What________ is_________.)
What is so great about these patterns is the beneficial effects they bring.
28. Factive Verbs and Adjectives
(odd, aware, know, realize, regret, believe, pleased)
Are you aware how much value is packed into one weekend of training?
29. Commentary Adjectives and Adverbs
(luckily, fortunately, happily, neccessarily, remarkably)
Fortunately, even learning one pattern makes you a better communicator.
Now listen carefully, write only one example of each. Don't even think of doing more than one. Then promptly crumple the page up, put it in your mouth and chew it thoroughly before swallowing, wash it down with the beverage of your choice and disavow any knowledge of ever having heard of presuppositions at any time ever. If you write strictly on computer, just delete all your files. Please do not attempt to fit your computer in your mouth, even if you work on a blackberry, deleting all your files will be sufficient.
(I'm kidding! Just checking to see if you're still reading. What I really meant was practice!)
See you next week.
Have fun!
